Welcome to Josef and Angelika Kieninger's page! We are so glad you're here. We are a husband and wife team who find our passion in creating art and have opened up our gallery in beautiful Waitarere Beach in December 2018. Our studio focuses on Josef's woodcut prints and Angelika's abstract acrylic paintings. But we take pride in also showing the diverse works of local artists as well. Our little beach community has been so supportive of our business and displaying their works feels like a little token of appreciation that we can offer.

While we were formally educated in Germany, we immigrated to beautiful Aotearoa seventeen years ago. Angelika studied pastel and acrylic but her talent displays itself in a variety of mediums. Her modern style as well as sheer size of many of her pieces make a real statement. Josef also has an extensive art background. He studied typesetting, graphic design, drawing and art history. With commissioned works for several institutions including the Jewish Memorial in Ellwangen. Most recently, he has found his niche with woodcut art and feels most at home in his historic letterpress studio adjacent to the gallery. Inspired by exceptional artists like Albrect Duerer, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Hap Grieshaber, he developed his own style of minimal details which give a strong and clear expression to the images.

Josef Kieninger Gallery was born in 2007 as ‘Blueberry Art’ and has organically grown into what it is today.
